Our History
Founding
New West Ballet School was founded by Eugenia Keefer in 1979 to serve the North County San Diego community. New West holds the distinction of producing the first full-length production of The Nutcracker in North County San Diego and we are also one of the first Nutcrackers of the holiday season. The first iteration of New West Ballet Theater’s The Nutcracker was produced, in conjunction with Palomar College, in 1980. The following year NWB produced it’s first full-length Nutcracker.
Present
Today New West Ballet is helmed by Artistic Director Coral Bruni, Ph.D. who is a product of New West Ballet and started her dance training at New West as a young child. During her tenure as Artistic Director Coral has produced many ballets, a combination of original ballets, restagings, and works in repertoire, for New West. Going forward Coral is excited to continue New West Ballet’s tradition of producing full-length, narrative shows that allow students to learn every facet of producing a show and see how their role contributes to the greater picture.
Eugenia Keefer Merit Scholarship
This scholarship was established to recognize outstanding full- time students enrolled at New West Ballet School for their hard work, dedication, and growth during the previous school year.
